Over 1,000 mathematicians pledge no AI-written math; 654 go AI-free
Why it matters
The Association for Human Mathematics lists 1,008 members, 654 of whom belong to its AI-free caucus (ahmath.org members page, checked Oct 25, 2026; the list is updated about weekly). All members commit not to provide technical labor, mathematical knowledge, consultation or publicity to commercial AI companies, and not to publish mathematical texts generated by AI models (papers, reviews, referee reports, lecture notes, teaching materials, books). AI-free caucus members also don't use AI in research: finding proofs, exploring examples or posing research questions. Membership is free and open to researchers at graduate level and higher. In a statement on OpenAI's October 6, 2026 release of over 700 math manuscripts, the group called it "a demonstration of power" and urged mathematicians to discontinue their work with OpenAI.
