Apollo's chief economist: zero AI payoff outside tech

Apollo chief economist Torsten Slok wrote on 24 Oct 2026 that AI has so far delivered "zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech": revenue per worker and profit margins are rising for the Mag 7 tech giants but flat for the other 493 S&P 500 companies, and there are still no signs of AI boosting productivity growth. He says mainstream firms are starting to view token spending as a cost centre, and that "the AI story will be decided in the S&P 493, not the Mag 7". Caveat: this is one economist's analysis of the data, not a settled verdict.

  1. Ant Ling open-sources Ling-3.0-flash-Sante health model

Ant Ling (inclusionAI) open-sourced Ling-3.0-flash-Sante on 22 Oct 2026: a healthcare-specialised hybrid-linear MoE built on Ling-3.0-flash, with 124B total parameters and only 5.1B active per token, and training that extends to 256K tokens. In its team's own evaluation it scores 54.3 on HealthBench Professional, ahead of Claude Opus 4.8 (49.4) and behind GPT-5.6 Sol (60.8), plus 94.2 on MedQA-USMLE. The weights are on Hugging Face and ModelScope under the MIT license. Caveat: the team calls it a research model, not a medical device, that must not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and the benchmarks are self-reported.
