OpenBMB releases MiniCPM-OCR 1.0, a free 1.3B OCR model
Why it matters
OpenBMB released MiniCPM-OCR 1.0 on 27 October 2026, a 1.3B-parameter model and the first OCR-specific model in its MiniCPM-V/o family, with code, documentation and weights under Apache 2.0. It parses text, tables, formulas, charts and seals in Chinese and English documents and PDFs, including scans, photographs, curved and skewed pages. OpenBMB reports 93.68 on Real5-OmniDocBench, a real-world document parsing benchmark, and calls that state of the art. With its DSpark decoding acceleration, OpenBMB reports throughput of about 1.49x PaddleOCR-VL-1.6 and 3.62x MinerU2.5 Pro (1.22 pages per second on an RTX 5090). All benchmark numbers are OpenBMB's own and have not been independently verified.
