AMD and Meta: custom Instinct GPU for Meta, plus AMD's $1B investment
Why it matters
AMD and Meta announced an expanded strategic partnership on 27 October 2026. According to AMD's press release, Meta was an early definition customer for the AMD Instinct MI450 architecture and will deploy a custom AMD Instinct GPU optimized for its workloads. Initial AMD Helios rackscale systems are installed and being tested by Meta, on the path to a broader deployment. AMD EPYC processors support the computing environments behind Meta's Muse personal AI agent, and Meta has deployed millions of EPYC processors across multiple generations. AMD will also invest $1 billion in Meta's equity offering. AMD CEO Lisa Su said the two companies are building and deploying infrastructure at gigawatt scale.
