Anthropic's $63B Broadcom AI chip financing: leased, not owned

Why it matters

Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley announced on 26 October 2026 a $63 billion transaction to deploy AI compute capacity built on Broadcom technology for Anthropic. A newly formed special purpose vehicle (SPV), funded by their committed financing, buys Broadcom XPU AI accelerators and networking solutions, which are leased to Anthropic. Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley arrange the first-lien financing, and Blackstone is the sole provider of the committed second-lien portion. Broadcom provides residual value support to the SPV for an amount equal to the first-lien portion. The deal is part of Broadcom's previously announced compute capacity agreement, with deliveries expected to start in calendar 2027. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said "the need for AI compute continues to grow at an extraordinary pace."
