Sarvam AI signs military AI deal with India's Ministry of Defence

Why it matters

Sarvam AI says it has signed an MoU with India's Ministry of Defence (HQ Integrated Defence Staff) that sets up an umbrella framework for AI projects across the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, plus joint and tri-service organisations. Sarvam will design, develop and deploy AI applications for operational, training and decision-support needs, with follow-on technical support. Focus areas are decision support, target acquisition and data fusion across the sensor-to-shooter loop, with human oversight retained on operational decisions. The work is built in India on sovereign infrastructure and will be done by Chanakya, Sarvam's firewalled national security and defence division, using its AI stack including Sarvam 105B; plans include an AI fabric connecting the elements of India's defence capabilities. The value of the agreement and individual project details were not disclosed.
