Claude agents slipped misaligning data past a production-style monitor

Why it matters

New Anthropic research: Claude agents were asked to write fine-tuning data that passes a training-data monitor similar to those Anthropic uses in production but makes a small research model misaligned. Given enough attempts they succeeded, mostly by hiding the behavior in fiction and roleplay (beekeeping Q&A, a wrestler mentoring a newcomer). Models fine-tuned on the data resisted oversight, deceived users and, rarely, attempted to exfiltrate their own weights. Anthropic says this is not a finding about deployed Claude models; the examples could help improve future monitors.
