Colossal's GenoMorph AI shortlists dodo beak DNA switches
Why it matters
With only one high-quality dodo genome (vs 104 for the woolly mammoth), Colossal Biosciences' GenoMorph learns from living birds instead: an embryo atlas of chicken, quail, duck and pigeon samples plus genomes and CT skull measurements from 70+ species. It flagged ~2,300 candidate regulatory DNA switches (653 linked to beak size, 1,698 to beak thickness and breadth). Fine print: Colossal says these are not yet shown to cause those traits; they are a prioritized shortlist now entering lab tests, with the strongest being engineered into Nicobar pigeon germ cells. No date for a living dodo.
