MAI Image 2.7: Microsoft's image editor debuts No. 2 on Artificial Analysis
Why it matters
Microsoft AI announced MAI Image 2.7 on 27 October 2026, its latest image editing model. It launches in preview at No. 2 on Artificial Analysis's image editing leaderboard with 1,193 Elo, behind only GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst (max) at 1,199 and ahead of GPT Image 2.5 Flare (max) at 1,182, and at No. 3 on Arena Edit, which Microsoft says makes Microsoft AI the No. 2 lab there. Microsoft says it improves on MAI-Image-2.6 across all 10 use cases and all 7 editing actions evaluated by Artificial Analysis, and reaches the category frontier in enhancement and restoration, reasoning-based edits, scene and style, and text or symbol editing; its strongest lead is scene and style, 24 Elo ahead of the next-best model. It can restyle or relight a scene, change text and symbols while keeping them integrated, and restore or enhance existing assets. It is available now on MAI Playground, Arena and Artificial Analysis; editing comes first, with text-to-image generation coming soon.
